Our Solar and Building Performance Team

Emerald Energy is owned and operated by three unique individuals.

John Leonard -President

John Leonard is responsible for sales and advertising. John graduated from North Carolina State University in 2004 with a degree in Business Administration. He has extensive experience in solar installations and sales from his eight years in the energy efficiency sector of the economy. He is very knowledgeable about the systems we offer and will go over the different options that are available. He works diligently with you to find practical ways to save money on your utility costs. John is a certified NABCEP Associate and is currently working on obtaining the industry-recognized NABCEP Technical Sales certification.

Justin Dunlap - Vice President

Justin Dunlap graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering. He has worked as a formulating chemist for an industrial chemical manufacturer where he became an expert in industrial chemistry applications and technical sales. Justin is also formally trained in quality management system concepts and was an ISO 9001 auditor and management representative. He joined the Emerald Energy team to lead installer groups with a focus on continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction. Justin is a certified NABCEP PV Installation Professional. His efforts at this time are focused on outside sales, PV system design, and storage integration strategies for residential customers. Justin enjoys listening to and playing music, learning about philosophy & mathematics theories, and spending time with his family.

Chris Belin - Lead Project Management

Chris Belin is responsible for the installation and service of the solar panel systems. In addition to the experience he has gained in his previous field, he is committed to providing the best product and service to each customer.

Joey Wood - Co-Owner and Lead Contractor

Joey Wood is responsible for the design, installation and service of the systems we offer. Joey graduated from Pitt Community College in 2004 with a degree in Electronic Servicing. His attention to detail ensures your system is supremely installed for both function and aesthetics. He frequently attends continuing education classes and other seminars to stay up to date with new products and services available to our customers. He is certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) as a Building Analyst Professional as well as an Air Leakage Control Professional. Joey is currently working on obtaining the industry recognized NABCEP PV Installer certification.
